The Goal
Hi! We're delighted that you have decided to check
out the Sensory Gang Summer Reading Program.
The goal of the program is to help keep kids engaged
over the summer and to help them begin to understand
and appreciate their differences and the differences
of those around them, as well as be able to apply
practical knowledge from the selected books in their
homes and classrooms.
The program is designed for early elementary, elementary,
middle school and high school students, and runs June-August.
By participating, students will have the opportunity
to read a selection of books that cover a range of
topics related to autism spectrum disorders.

Your Reward
We have also provided a log for keeping track of
the books that the child completes. For early elementary
and elementary students, submit the completed reading
log at the end of the program with at least one photo
of the child with his/her craft project or favorite
book to receive a certificate of completion, AAPC
Team Gear and a $25 AAPC gift certificate. For middle
school and high school students, students should submit
a completed reading log with at least two book reports
to receive a certificate, AAPC Team Gear and a $25
AAPC gift certificate.

The Books
We have chosen titles that are entertaining but also
practical resources for everyday life. In addition,
for our younger readers, we have accompanied our book
selections with craft activities and coloring pages
and discussion questions so they can immerse themselves
in the message of the book and take away a tangible
product. For our older readers, we have accompanied
books with discussion topics/questions as a way to
open up dialogue about what they have read.

Your Stories
We'd love to hear from you through the summer to
see how things are going. Please feel free to e-mail
us at summerreading@asperger.net
to show us your projects and tell us what you think
about the books! We may even choose your photo to
be displayed on our web site or in our Spring 2009
catalog!
