"Every
child has a right to participate
in a variety of art experiences appropriate to the child's needs and interests..."
This practical resource
offers everything a parent, teacher, or daycare provider needs to offer
meaningful, stimulating art activities for children with autism, Asperger
Syndrome and other pervasive developmental disabilities. Developed by
an art teacher working with special needs children, the activities are
designed to stimulate the child's senses through manipulation and exploration,
arouse curiosity and creativity and develop a sense of mastery. Activities
are grouped by primary modality for ease of use. An introductory page
to each activity gives background information about a given sense, lists
vocabulary, related concepts, basic objectives, and required materials.
In addition, adaptations, modifications and alternative instructional
strategies are suggested. Easy-to-follow step-by-step procedures are illustrated
by line drawings. Recommended for parents and educators alike.
