Hello,

I am pleased to introduce MY SENSORY BOOK: Working Together to Explore Sensory Issues and the Big Feelings They Can Cause: A Workbook for Parents, Professionals and Children, The book is founded on a belief that we must look at the child as a whole person rather than only focus on his or her emotional and behavior issues.

As a social worker, I became interested in the relationship between sensory issues and feelings through my work with children in my private practice and in schools. As I saw how they were struggling with their emotions, I came to realize that many of their emotional struggles were triggered or aggravated by sensory stimuli that were distressing to them.

In publishing MY SENSORY BOOK, it is my hope that a larger group of children will begin to understand the relationship between sensory issues and feelings so that they may have more effective strategies to manage their emotions. The hands-on worksheets, pictures and illustrations offer a fun, yet effective way to explore sensory issues, feelings and strategies. In addition, the book offers lots of support and background information for the adult facilitators, whether parents, teachers, therapists, social workers, etc.

Based on their new-found knowledge about themselves, children will walk away with a "toolbox" of strategies that will assist them in managing everyday experiences they may have found frustrating or nearly impossible to manage in the past.

Take care,
Lauren
