a letter from Herb...
Theater
was my great love in my early years
it continues to be
my passion. Majoring in Theater Arts at UCLA and Indiana University
gave me the skills to be employed in radio as a commercial
writer, personality, and later, executive at stations KQV
(Pittsburgh) and KRLA (Los Angeles). Following this stint
in radio, I produced/promoted records for several recording
companies on the West Coast.
My family moved to rural Oregon, (Bend) in the 70s
where I became a back to the land farmer. However,
my love of performance lured me back, and I became a full
time professional pantomime artist. I worked at all levels
of schools for over 15 years, entertaining upwards of 300,000
kids.
After hanging up my slippers, I found a natural spot as an
assistant instructor for Middle School Special Education students
in our new location, southern Oregon, or more specifically
in Talent, a suburb of Ashland. Days were spent at school;
nights were spent seeing and reviewing community plays, as
well as those performed by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
I reviewed and interviewed for about 15 years.
For the past six years I have become the writer and producer
of educational TV and taped shows for the Southern Oregon
Educational Services network.
Inspired by my close proximity to youngsters with special
needs, I determined to turn my skills to creating a fiction
novel. This has taken shape as Running on Dreams, soon
to be published by AAPC.
My wife and I have three sons and five grandchildren and
love the rural, laid-back life of this art/agriculturally-blended
community.
