Dear AAPC Customer,
When a chameleon wants to show his mood or communicate
with other chameleons, he changes color. Similarly,
children with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning
autism can make changes in themselves when they
experience the unsettling emotions that lead
to meltdowns. The
Chameleon Kid, written for children
on the autism spectrum, shows with the help
of powerful illustrations how one can control
explosive feelings in a positive, non-scary
way, thereby often diverting a potential meltdown.
I wrote The
Chameleon Kid for my grandson, Sam,
who is eight years old. He was diagnosed with
Asperger Syndrome following an evaluation suggested
by his preschool teacher.
Sam is an enthusiastic and amazing
child. Through our frequent interactions, I've
developed an understanding of and appreciation
for some of his needs as a child living with
Asperger Syndrome, and in my recent books I
have focused on some of those needs. For example,
my first two books published by the Autism Asperger
Publishing Company,
I Am Utterly Unique and The
Kaleidoscope Kid, were written to remind
Sam and children like him that people with Asperger's
have many admirable traits and gifts.
Kind regards,
Elaine Marie Larson
