Sherry
Moyer, MSW, is the Asperger Syndrome consultant
for NHS Human Services in Pennsylvania, where
she focuses on staff and program development,
outcomes monitoring, and individual case consultation.
She is the former executive director of the
Asperger Syndrome Coalition of the U.S. Ms.
Moyer is a national and international speaker
and has contributed to several books, including
Asperger
Syndrome and Adolescence, (Myles &
Adreon; AAPC, 2001), Asperger Syndrome; A
Guide for Professionals and Families, (DuCahrme
& Gullotta; Kluwer Academic, 2003), The
Educator's Guide to Mental Health Issues in
the Classroom, (Kline & Silver; Brookes
Publishing, 2004), The
Comprehensive Autism Planning System (CAPS)
for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome, Autism
and Related Disabilities: Integrating Best Practices
Throughout the Student's Day, (Henry
and Myles; AAPC, 2007), and Autism Spectrum
Disorders: A Handbook for Parents and Professionals,
(Myles, Swanson, Holverstott, Duncan; Praeger
Publishers, 2008). Ms. Moyer provides trainings
for the Geneva Centre, Maryland Division of
Rehabilitation Services, Pennsylvania Office
of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Kentucky
Autism Training Center. Ms. Moyer is the parent
of a young adult with Asperger Syndrome and
her areas of interest include vocational issues,
theory of mind, attribution retraining, self-regulation,
trauma and transition issues. Her book The
Eclipse Model: Teaching Self-Regulation, Executive
Function, Attribution, and Sensory Awareness
to Young People with Asperger Syndrome, PDD-NOS,
and Related Disorders, will be available
from AAPC in fall of 2009.
