Barrett Mann
Lisa
Barrett Mann, Ms.Ed., specializes in evidence-based
interventions for children and adolescents with
autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She is the
ASD consultant to five school districts and
maintains a private practice focused on social
skills training and cognitive-behavioral interventions
for Asperger Syndrome. Ms. Mann's approach to
professional development training-in which she
incorporates engaging videos and real-life stories,
along with up-to-the-minute research findings
and practical approaches to teaching children
on the spectrum-make her a much in-demand speaker.
She has edited books on autism spectrum disorders,
Tourette syndrome, and parenting children with
disabilities. Ms. Mann recently published More
Than Little Professors-Children with Asperger
Syndrome in Their Own Words, a collection
of quotes, poems, essays, and stories by children
with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism.
Formerly an award-winning healthcare writer,
Ms. Mann made a mid-life career change after
her son was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.
Her Washington Post article "Lessons from
the Little Professor," which documented
her frustrating journey to find an explanation
for her little boy's unusual behaviors, has
been reprinted around the world, and is still
handed out by many clinicians as a way of introducing
parents to Asperger Syndrome.
